Community Field Hockey For Grades K/1

I’m so excited there’s so much interest in field hockey!  I wanted to reach out to all of the parents of kindergarten and first grade girls and invite those who are interested to join the Anchorage teams.  Our goals this season are to introduce the girls to the sport, teaching them how to hold the stick, stick skills, basic strategy, where the positions are on the field, and the rules of the game.  Additionally, a big focus is building friendships and having fun.

Practices– Monday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 at the Buckner YMCA indoor fields (carpooling is encouraged)

Games– Sundays at KCD (outdoors)

League Info– run by the YMCA, 6-8 year old field hockey

Coaches and Helpers– parent volunteers Katie Greene, Kathryn Robertson, Susanne Bush, Stephanie Cronan, Leslie Riddle and Stacie Winkler

Team/s– I’m assuming at this point we will have two teams.  There are 7 girls per team on the field at a time so we base the size of the team off that number.  We will NOT be limiting the number of girls who can participate on APS teams because we want everyone to have a chance to participate who is interested.

Gear– shin guards, hockey stick, eye mask, mouth guard, NO CLEATS, (Dicks and Stickheads are good places to go for gear), players will receive a team jersey and team socks

REGISTRATION NOTES: You are signing up for Field Hockey Indoor/Outdoor Ages 6-8 at the Oldham County Family YMCA: March 11- May 13.

Please sign up for the Anchorage Team, Coach Katie Greene.  I will be working with the YMCA program coordinator, Josh Lewis, to divide our teams, mixing kindergarten and first grade girls.  So all girls will sign-up as players on one team and will be divided later.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS:

  1. Manage sign-up genius for snacks and drinks on game days (one volunteer for each team)
  2. Data entry- a one time job to enter our practice and game data into the app TeamSnap, which we will be using this season to track our play times.  This is new this season and we are trying it because the YMCA Player Space App is the worst.

On behalf of all the coaches, we are looking forward to having a fun season and thank you for your interest.  If you have any questions, please feel free to text me at (502) 649-2604.
