Now that the summer is slowly coming to an end, here are a few reminders about health requirements and the upcoming school year.
The state of Kentucky requires all K-12 students to have the Hepatitis A vaccine. This vaccine is a series of two shots, six months apart. Many younger students have already received both shots, however, since it was not a required vaccine for school entry, it was not written on the immunization certificate.
Many students have received the first Hepatitis A vaccine but may still need the booster.
All 6th grade students must have completed a Kentucky 6th Grade School Physical Exam within the year prior to 6th grade enrollment. KHSAA sports physicals are completed on a separate form and cannot be accepted as the 6th grade entry physical. Depending on your child’s age, he or she may have the Tdap and first Meningococcal vaccine required as well.
All kindergarten students are required to provide a copy of their birth certificate, be up to date on all required vaccines (a vaccine schedule can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/imz/child-adolescent.html) and have completed a Kentucky School Physical Exam, Kentucky Eye Exam and Kentucky Dental Exam.
Due to Kentucky state law, students must meet all health requirements within two weeks after starting school.
