Anchorage Public School is stepping up its campus security efforts with several improvement initiatives to better ensure the safety and security of our students, staff and visitors. One of those initiatives is our enhanced visitor management system being funded through our Safe Schools allocation. The system will help boost campus security by identifying and badging all visitors to our school.
We are happy to share, that while the new system will provide for enhanced security, the experience for visitors is much like our existing process. Visitors will still present a valid driver’s license or other state issued photo ID at our front desk and will still sign-in, listing the purpose of their visit. Our new process will also however include a visitor’s picture being taken and included on each temporary visitor’s badge, in order that all badges will include the visitor’s picture, date and purpose of visit. (A picture will ONLY be taken during a visitor’s initial visit/registration with the system.) The system also automatically checks the visitor’s name and date of birth against a national databases of registered sex offenders. At the end of a visit, procedures will remain unchanged. Visitors simply go to our front desk to sign out and to collect their ID.
This new system will better allow our school staff to ensure that all visitors are authorized to be on campus, are in the intended visit locations and have appropriately signed in through our front desk.
We will begin using our new system on Monday, October 28. Community members who would like to pre-register with the new system, can do so at the District Office any day next week (October 21 – 25) between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm. It is not necessary to pre-register, but doing so will make your first visit (with the new system in place) to school more efficient.
