At a press conference on Wednesday, Governor Beshear discussed highly anticipated guidance for schools and districts on how to safely reopen for the upcoming school year amid the ongoing pandemic. The Team Kentucky Healthy-at-School Guidance can be found here.
The guidance addresses multiple areas, such as mask wearing, social distancing, wellness screening and sanitation.
With the guidance now in hand, we are working to finalize our APS Return-to-School plans and look forward to releasing those to parents in the coming weeks. We are certainly blessed by many advantages that will make our transition to reopen school easier, such as small class sizes, a full-time school nurse and school counselor on staff, and a well-equipped custodial department. Our large classrooms coupled with small class sizes will afford students many opportunities to be relieved of wearing a mask, while still adhering to the expectations included in the state guidance for Kentucky schools.
